OPENING FILM: We Are Northern Lights
Fri 17th May, 8pm (doors 7.30pm) at The Glad Cafe. Price: £6/£5
Cert U – 95 mins – 2012
A film about Scotland made by people in Scotland, We Are Northern Lights is Scotland’s first ever crowd-sourced, mass- participation film. Over three months in 2012, 1500 submissions were received by We Are Northern Lights with over 300 hours of footage which took director Nick Higgins and editor Colin Monie five months to edit into the final 95 minute film.
Last year’s Southside Film Festival hosted a We Are Northern Lights workshop to encourage Southsiders to contribute to the project so we are particularly pleased to be able to open this year’s festival with the final results. Of the 121 final co-directors a couple were from the Southside and the film includes a great sequence in Govanhill Baths.
We are Northern Lights was funded as part of the Year of Creative Scotland, 2012.
We Are Northern Lights and Southside Film Festival will donate a percentage of the box office from this screening to Govanhill Baths Community Trust.
There will be a Q&A from director Nick Higgins and editor Colin Monie and some of the Southside co-directors.
